If you know anything about me, you know Young Life is half of my personality, which is why work crew was the easiest “yes” I have ever said.
I thought it was silly when my leader first sent me the link to sign up, because when she did this I was just starting to rebuild my relationship with the Lord. It was right after I started to get better and the Lord was pulling me out of the hole I was in. I wasn’t fully in a place to talk to others about their faith, because I wasn’t rooted in my own. And I 100% was not in a place to serve others.
Selfishly, I signed up anyways. I wanted to have an excuse to be away from the real world for a month, and if that meant I had to be putting down silverware for three weeks, so be it.
Two months pass by and I find out I was going to Carolina Point. This was kind of disappointing because I had been to CPT so many times, I wanted to see something new. As upset as I was about it, I had a feeling I was supposed to be there, so I told my work crew trainer thank you so much for letting me know! and went about my day. If you have read one of my previous posts titled “More Than A Mission” you’d know how much my trip to Costa Rica showed me. It was when God brought me out of a hole I was so desperately wanting to be out of. Then I knew I was ready. If I could help build a house in the Costa Rica heat, I could do anything.
Then the day came, and as I was driving up the mountain I could not have been any happier. I met people who I know have the privilege to call my friends. I met people who showed me the love of Christ in so many ways. I had conversations that showed me how infinite God truly is, and how vast His love is for us. I got to share my story with girls I had never met before, and I got to tell campers how much I love work crew and how it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
As much as I want to write pages and pages about my experience, I can’t because the WiFi at CPT is the worst, and my phone is lagging, but if you don’t take anything away from this, at least hear me on this. God puts us where we’re at for a reason. I was supposed to be at Carolina Point session 2, as much as I didn’t want to be at first. I was supposed to go through what I did last year to be able to tell my story and show others that you’re never too far gone. That God is always with us even when it doesn’t feel like it.
you are loved beyond measure. thanks for reading!
